About BUMS (Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery)
Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (BUMS) is a 5.5-year undergraduate medical degree that includes 4.5 years of academic study and one year of a compulsory rotatory internship. The course is based on the Unani system of medicine, a traditional healing system that emphasises natural remedies, diet, lifestyle modifications, and holistic patient care. Admission to BUMS in India is primarily through NEET-UG, followed by AYUSH counselling. The BUMS curriculum combines traditional Unani medicine with modern medical sciences, enabling students to diagnose, treat, and prevent diseases using evidence-based Unani therapies. Students receive clinical training in hospitals, Unani dispensaries, and healthcare centres.
