About B.Sc. Respiratory Therapy

B.Sc. Respiratory Therapy is a 4-year undergraduate allied healthcare programme that focuses on the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with respiratory and cardiopulmonary disorders. The course generally includes 3 years of academic learning followed by a 1-year compulsory clinical internship. Respiratory therapists work alongside pulmonologists, anaesthesiologists, critical care specialists, and emergency physicians to provide life-saving respiratory care. The curriculum covers pulmonary medicine, respiratory physiology, mechanical ventilation, critical care, anaesthesia technology, pulmonary function testing, oxygen therapy, neonatal and paediatric respiratory care, and emergency airway management. Students gain extensive hands-on experience in intensive care units (ICUs), operation theatres, pulmonary function laboratories, sleep laboratories, emergency departments, and multispecialty hospitals. With the increasing incidence of asthma, COPD, lung infections, sleep disorders, respiratory failure, and critical care admissions, respiratory therapy has become one of the fastest-growing allied healthcare professions in India and globally.
