About B.Sc. Perfusion Technology
B.Sc. Perfusion Technology is a 4-year undergraduate allied healthcare programme that focuses on operating the heart-lung machine (cardiopulmonary bypass machine) during open-heart surgeries and other complex cardiovascular procedures. The course generally includes 3 years of academic study followed by a 1-year compulsory clinical internship. Perfusion technologists play a critical role in cardiac surgeries by maintaining the patient's blood circulation, oxygenation, and body temperature while the heart is temporarily stopped. The curriculum combines medical sciences with advanced cardiovascular technology, critical care, extracorporeal circulation, cardiac anaesthesia, and surgical support. Students receive hands-on clinical training in cardiac operation theatres, intensive care units (ICUs), cardiac catheterisation laboratories, and transplant centres. With the growing number of cardiac surgeries, organ transplant procedures, and advanced cardiovascular treatments, perfusion technology has become one of the most rewarding and high-demand allied healthcare careers in India and abroad.
